How can I make my lawn mowing business better?

I have friends helping me. It was my first day today and I got no one who wanted me and my friends to cut their grass. We have tried doing it for $5, we have tried cutting it for what they can give me but nothing seems to work. We use a old push-pull lawn mover. What are we doing wrong? Also, we went to like every house on our block.

1. Don't use a push-pull lawn mower. Also, try to be as friendly as you can be to your neighbors. You can also try not naming a price, instead let the neighbor decide the price. Hope your business goes well!
2. probably your age if your under 15 they probably think you can't do anything but like the other guy said dont name you price let them and tell them what you can do.try fliers and put them on light pole so when they go running or walk their dog they will glance at it. but for them to glance at it stand out! hope i help! good luck:)
3. When I was a lad, I would wait for really hot days (best on a Saturday) and ride my bike around looking for guys mowing their lawns. I would watch for 15 or 20 minutes and when they were really sweaty I would walk up to them and say - How about you go inside and get a beer, and let me cut the grass. I work cheap and you will help keep me off the street! It worked great! Good Luck - I admire your work ethic.
