How often do you water a lawn after the grass seed starts to grow?
Hi I just planted a new yard about a week and a half ago and the grass is growing really quick!! I have been watering twice a day because I live in Texas and its been 90 degrees the past couple days. I have been just using a hand sprinkler just to moistin the ground a little bit. Am I going about this the right way??

- as long as it's growing, i wouldn't change a thing
- you sure are morning and night, good luck
- I use what I call the two inch test. I water early morning and check by sticking my finger in the ground two inches. If the soil is moist two inches down that is good. Wait about an hour after watering to test. Add more if needed. You may not need to water everyday. Test and see if it needs it. You want the grass to "starve" so it will root deep looking for water. When the soil dries two inches down that is how I know I need to water. I have done this for years and always have a great looking green lawn all summer. Good luck and may you have the greenest grass on the block!
- Your procedure is going to cause the grass roots to stay near the top of the soil and not gain a hold on the ground. This could cause it to easily pull out when you mow. Set a container in the area you are watering and let the sprinkler run until 1" of water is in the container. This insures deep watering. Do this in early morning for best results.
