The Grass Doctor

Do I really need a spreader (eg Scotts AccuGreen 300) to apply lawn care products to my lawn ?

I just purchased Scotts 4 Step Lawn Care Program, its an annual program and I am going to do Step One tomorrow. It just makes no sense to buy a $50 product to do something a task I can easily do with a common cup from my kitchen. Please help me....thank you

  1. If you can spread it evenly and without waisting it or to much in one spot or miss some then I guess it would work.
  2. buy a small hand held spreader 20 $ it needs to be even or your lawn will be spotty
  3. How are you going to spread lawn fertilizer on a lawn with a cup? Is your lawn the size of a shoe? If its any bigger of coarse you need a spreader.
  4. Take a gallon jug such as a bleach bottle, wash well and dry. Cut off the top and make numerous small holes in the bottom.
  5. Celexa and Michael R get my vote for best answers. Unless your yard is really, really small, a spreader is a must. You can get by quite well with an inexpensive hand-held spreader if your lawn is under an acre. Anything larger, consider something you can push manually, or pull behind your mower. I have about a half acre, and have done well with a Scotts hand-held spreader. But trying to spread anything, lime, seed, fertilizer, etc, by hand will leave you with uneven results.
  6. I would go to some flea markets or yard sales and you can find a good push spreader for $5.Of course if your yard is the size of a car, then u can do that by hand
