The Grass Doctor

Do I need to add more grass seed?

I seeded a yard two weeks ago today using Scott's Turfbuilder EZ seed and Scotts coated seed. The yard had not had grass for years as it was covered by plastic and a deck. The grass has started growing great, but there is about 20% of the yard where grass does not seem to be coming up, or is thin. Should I let the grass spread (does it?) or should I add more seed? I don't want to choke out the new grass I have coming in.

  1. add more seeds it won,t choke it out,
  2. You can throw a few more seeds in the thin spot. Make sure you keep it well watered. If it dries out the grass will die when it is young.
  3. yes by all means seed it again good luck
  4. You can do either. If you wait for some runners to come from your established part, you can place grass runners down and add top dressing to help it grow. If you prefer to go with seed, Spread a fine coat of seed evenly over the bare patch and again add a little top dressing, be sure to water and this will work too. Good luck. Cheers Lisa
