Would it be a waste of money/time to reseed my lawn now?
My backyard is full of weeds. I spoke with a few people about having some work done. So far the most "reasonable" price is $500 to spray Roundup, rake, seed, fertilize, lime, and put done some ground cover that's better than straw (I forgot what he called it) and he would come back in the fall and reseed for no charge. I know it'll be hot soon. Will the grass even grow? I'm also concerned that he's spraying Roundup and a week later planting grass seeds. Is this man playing me for a fool? - Why not apply a weed-and-feed fertilizer to get rid of weeds? It might take a couple of treatments over the course of several weeks. Then you could keep the grass you have, and it would cost a fraction of the Roundup-reseed plan. The only reason to obliterate and reseed is if you have annuals like quack grass or bindweed that can only be eliminated by a Roundup application. After your additional explanation: It's not unreasonable to charge $500 for eliminating weeds, grading, seeding, and guaranteeing growth and making more applications as needed. Sounds like a good deal.
- Get Scott's Weed and Feed....and at the same time get a good grass seed. First put down the Scott's and then a week later apply the grass seed and water every day....in about 2 weeks your yard will start looking better...and by the end of summer it will look good. Do this application this year and next year and your yard will be gorgeous. P.S. Be sure and use the Scott's 3 times a year...Spring, Summer & Fall.
