Should current (dying) SOD be killed and tilled along with fertilized for resseding or cut and hauled away?
When renovating a previously sodded lawn that was done improperly to begin with (kentucky bluegrass in a shaded backyard) - receiving guidance frmo landscapers that they will kill the current sod and weeds, fertalize add lime, till and reseed witha blended seed mixture to grow in a shady and sunny environment. Does this seem correct. Or should the previous sod be scraped off and hauled away. Proposed professional was adament that this organic material (sod) should not be wasted. Please advise if this is the best approach.

- Yes that advise sounds correct. ANY organic matierial tilled into the soil will be a good thing. So, if you leave that bad grass there, till it under then you've got a start on a good base.
- i have had sod hat would not grow i just reseeded and fertilized kept it watered and it came up just fine
- well if your lawn is in need of replacement their is really no question there just isnt enough left to do you any good or do you any harm till it up seed it with the type of seed that will grow if it was seeded with strait blugrass the root system will not be an issue after tilling
