Which is better Scotts fertilizer or manure?

Hi I plan on planting some new grass seed to start a lawn and I was wondering which fertilizer was better? Also if anyone could tell me what's the best way to get rid of old grass to start new grass would be helpful too.

1. If you want to get rid of your old grass first. Spray lawn with round-up first then afer 10 days you can replant with new grass seed. you are better to fertilize with a starter fert. like 12-12-12. it has what the new seedlings need, manure is made up of mostly of nitrogen and will chemical burn the tender seedlings.
