When to add grass seeds to lawn patches?

- After the danger of frost is over.
- For most zones, it would be early fall. You want to avoid the heat of summer. You can do it in late spring as well, but late summer/early fall is best. Mulch the seeded areas with straw (wheat or pine) to help hold in moisture.
- Late Summer / early Fall is best, but you can seed in Spring, too. Most seed varieties germinate when the constant soil temperature is near 60-degrees F. If you live in a cold climate, wait until overnight temps are in the 50's for several nights in a row, then the soil temp will be about right. Keep seed continuously damp until it sprouts.
