The Grass Doctor

What is the best type of grass seed?

I'm looking for grass seed to fix up some patches on my lawn. I've heard a lot about all the different types and need to find the best type. I am aware that some brands, like Patch Perfect, are scams. I live in the Northern US (New Jersey). It would be appreciated if you give a specific brand. Ten points to best answerer.

  4. jonathan green black beauty ultra is the best ive ever dealt with. it is a fescue, blue grass and rye grass mix. its a very diverse mix as far as color and blade texture. the blades even grow with a wax coating for moisture retention. great for dry summers. its not cheap, but it looks awesome. only available at independent garden centers no home depot/lowes. jonathangreen.com for more info.
  5. Generally it is best for filling in places like you are talking about to buy a mix of grass seed. It is sold in gardening centers all bagged up and mixed. Typically they will sell brands with varieties of grass premixed that are perfect for your area. With the mix of seeds you'll have several varieties to provide different grass growths at different times and under differeing conditions. This will patch a bad place better than just one kind of grass seed.
