Will my centipede grass grow back with a loose pile of dirt on it?

We just had a pool installed and some of the sand and dirt was left on top of my lawn. I racked up the dirt and I can see the grass underneath and in between the dirt. Will centipede grass come up thru the dirt or do I have to rack as much as can up? Should I water it with the dirt on it so it stays moist?
