The Grass Doctor

Help,I'm having yard issues!?

Everytime I sprinkle out grass seed to get my lawn to grow, the birds seem to eat the majority of them up, therefore my grass is spotty in places and looks a mess. Also, how can I keep the neighborhood cats, racoons, and possums out my yard and keep them from urinating on my grass which I also think is stunting my grass' growth. Oh,one more thing (lol) How in the heck can I keep mosquitoes away (those torches and candles are not working and I know they are attracted to our pool as well) Help!

  1. Cover your seed with straw. Aside from fencing your yard, there's not much you can do about the animals. Buy a mosquito catcher.
  2. To keep the birds from stealing the seeds you can spread loose hay over the seeded area this also helps keep moisture from evaporating.as for cats etc there are products available at garden shops etc that help keep pests away you would have to spred the powder around the edge of the garden Racoons hate to get their hands dirty with them a board with motor oil on it around the area that they travel will keep them away(they lick their paws to clean them and hate the taste...don't know about possums..Try a mosquito magnet they use propane and are good for up to an acre or so depending on the unit size
  3. Put a birdfeeder up and that might help....bb gun for the animals??!!! I'm kidding....Put a small fence up maybe....Now the mosquitoes....I'm from Oklahoma and have family in East Texas....Now this sounds a lilttle crazy, but it DOES work because I've seen my family use this trick for years..... What you need: Zip Lock bags (half gallon) Tin Foil Water Thumb tacks Fill the bags half full with water...Take the tin foil and cut it into pieces about 2 inches thick and the length of the bag....Insert the foil in the bag with the water and it'll sink to the bottom....Lock your bag up and hang it on the top of your porch (the roof) with either a thumb tack or whatever else you think might hold them (I can't remember what they used)....Hang as many as you want up...It works and it also keeps annoying flys away....Try this and see if that helps....Cause in Oklahoma both insects are annoying lol Good Luck to you!!!
  4. You can buy what's called a mosquito deleteo. I would also look for where they are laying eggs. Tires, buckets, where ever there is stagnate water, and dump them out or fill them with rock, dirt, what ever. As for the the animals you can get a live trap and catch and relocate them.
