The Grass Doctor

Kat grass versus real grass?

I've seen what they call " kat grass " at the local pet store. I was thinking about buying some ... as my cats love to nibble on my plants. The vet said grass is good for kittys ... but my question is, what is the difference between this kat grass they sell and outdoor? Is it better for them? One of my kittys has megacolon and gets constipated along ... I see that some of these kat grass are different kinds ... one says flax seed kat grass ... would that be good for my kitty with constipation problems?

  1. The cat grass they sell in the pet stores is the kind that is good for cats, but it is expensive. I would stick with that rather than regular outside grass. I had a cat with constipation problems and we found that lactulose really helped. You get it from your vet. It is not expensive and comes as a syrup in a bottle. You put a little bit in with their food and it keeps the stool soft and moving along. It is dose dependent, that is, the more you use, the softer the stool gets, so you can overdo it and end up with runny stools. There are no real side effects, so I would recommend trying it if you haven't.
  2. You really need to ask your vet about this. Good luck.
