The Grass Doctor

How do I re-train my cat?

My 10 month old cat has lived with us since he was 3 months old. His cushion, litter tray and food have been kept in the laundry since we've had him and he has been shut in there at night and when we're out. A couple of days ago, we had a 'cat flap' put in the laundry door, so that he can come in and out when he wants; that way when we go out we just close off the laundry from the rest of the house. I also put his bed in a kennel which I placed under the verandah and his litter tray outside. We left his food bowl in the laundry to protect from ants etc. Anyway... clearly I have done this all wrong! He wouldn't sleep in the new bed, so I have brought it back into the laundry with the plan to somehow slow up the transition; he does his wees in the litter tray outside, but the other he does in the newly sown grass seeds. He quite happily comes in and out of the cat-flap as he chooses. Now - HOW do I successfully adapt him to using the kennel outside and using the litter tray outside. Anyone? Please?

  1. My 14 year old cat, who we got around age 3 from being a stray outdoors, will not pee or poop outside once he got used to the house. I can have him outside with me in the back yard and he'll literally hold it all till he gets back inside, and rush to use the box in the kitchen. Some cats just prefer not doing it.
