Can my dog safely eat Cat Grass?
Recently I bought a few packs of seeds and noticed Cat Grass, so I got some to grow in a pot in my garden for my dog as I don't have grass in the garden but paved areas and gravel.Having looked on the internet to see if it's safe for my dog to eat, I couldn't find a good answer. My dog sometimes eats grass when I walk her in the park where there's plenty of grass of course, so I hoped by growing some for her in the garden would help. Thanks in advance for any helpful answers. Thanks Kate, I did already know that but good of you to answer. What I want to know is, the Cat Grass that can be grown from seed, can it be safe for dogs too?

- Generally when a dog eats grass they'll throw up after wards because their stomachs can't digest grass as they aren't made to be eating grass. This is natural and sometimes when dogs aren't feeling too good they'll eat grass on purpose so that they can throw up and feel better. It's like medicine, but dog style!
- Your dog will know if it's safe to eat the grass.. Animal instinct is why wild animals survive. No aminal is truly domesticated, they all have their basic instincts still. Thats why dogs sometimes threaten or attack people. If they feel threatened in anyway they defend themselves or their home. People forget that we have hands and feet to defend ourselves and animals only have teeth.
- Hi Pink Ribbon, long time no hear. Hope ur OK. It would probably make her sick.
- dogs generally only eat grass if they have worms....try giving them a worm dose and it should stop...but generally eating grass wouldn't do them any damage.
- Yes it is safe for your dog. I live in Michigan, where winter snows predominate the landscape for months. I plant "cat grass", red top and barley for my dogs in pots for the winter. Place some gravel on the soil surface after sprouted so they don't make a mess pulling the stems out. Cat grass sprouts within a couple days and grows quickly. Allow it to grow for @ 2 weeks before offering it to your dog.
- from experience, yes, it is safe for dogs to eat cat grass (as long as you don't spray your grass with insecticides or pesticides).... i am not a veterinarian but like you, am a dog lover.... I've noticed that since dogs don't get too much plant fiber from dogfood, they usually munch on grass for roughage to help them expel unwanted things in their stomach, especially worms...... since grass fibers are insoluble, imagine these as a cleaning rugs pushing out these worms out of your dog's digestive system... your dog's poo may not be a sight to look at after eating grass but sometimes you will notice worms bundled around these grass fibers... when you notice that, bring your dog to the vet for treatment...
