When the state welfare office says 5 months in 3 years you can collect food stamps..what does this mean?
what are the 3 years for? does this mean you are in their system for 3 years and you can do all 5 months next to each other or you can do it off and on, with employment? do they still require you to reigister for a job and take training classes if you are self employed cutting lawns, doing landscaping (though very little money, but can live on ?) equipment is old truck , small trailer, and rakes, etc, . please explain how most go about this.

- You can only get food stamps for 5 months in a 3 year period without meeting a work requirement or are exempt from meeting the work requirement. If you are working 20 hours per week at minimum wage then you are meeting the work requirement for that month. After 3 years you will start a new 3 year period if you are still on food stamps. If 1 month you only work 10 hours per week that month will count against the 5 months they give you. After you have failed to meet the work rule for 5 months in the 3 year period you can't get back on until your 3 years period is over or you become exempt from the work rule. They will only require you to do training if you are not working 30 hours per week
