The Grass Doctor

What type of grass should I plant?

I live in central missouri and want to plant a grass that would be resistant to wash out and errosion. The grass would be planted in a high traffic area and is on a slope that has a large volume of run off during a strom. Thanks

  4. You may want to consider using ornamental grasses and ground covers instead of traditonal grass, and create some pathways for the heavy foot traffic. Some plants that might work are: Crested wheatgrass (agropyron cristatum) Deep roots, takes moderate foot traffic and is good for soil stability and erosioin control, particularly if unmowed Blue grama grass (Bouteloua gracilis) Good as an erosion control ground cover when left unmowed. Used in home landscapes. Needs direct sun but not a lot of water. Buffalograss (Buchloe dactyloides) Some cultivars take more foot traffic than others. Very drought tolerant. Cost can be high.
