What is the best fertilizer for established Tomato bushes?

  1. Use almost any water soluble fertizer once a week ( Peters or Miracle Gro)
  2. There are three numbers on the fertilizer container giving you the % of each major nutrient in the container. The first is nitrogen, the second is phosphorus, the third is potassium. You want a fertilizer with the second number higher than the other two. For example a 6-12-6 fertilizer would be fine whereas as 40-0-0 would not.........that's lawn fertilizer. Note the numbers do not add up to 100%, the rest is carrier and fill. So if you do a little math you can calculate how much money a unit of , let's say phosphorus, costs for each formulation. You will be amazed at the price variety! One final warning, if you see a "flower food", that might work, but read the label carefully. Some contain insecticides or fungicides and if applied to vegetables will render them inedible. The companies assume you won't be eating your flowers so put these pesticides in to help you garden.
