Will a lawn care business last during this depression?

I'm thinking about starting one up.

  1. only if you work for the wealthy.
  2. If you do quality work for a fair price you will succeed. Some things that will help you get established: Professional appearance is important. Be prompt. Clean up behind yourself. Send bills promptly. Stay out of debt. That means pay cash for everything. Buy commercial liability insurance. Mention it in your advertising. "Fully insured" gives clients confidence in you. Don't fall behind with bookkeeping and set money aside for quarterly tax payments.
  3. depends on where you are working, but i know in my area - its mostly older people - who are living off pensions and life savings - that are using lawn care services......so basicly - in a depression or not - they are older and on a fixed income and definately NEED someone to do their lawn service. So their buisness is constant. On the other hand if you are wanting to just start one up now - you might have a hard time only because you need to find new clients and finding clients with our poor economy will be harder. Either way - if you are able to offer your services at a really good rate as a new business - you have a better chance of surviving, i would recomend not putting that much money into it to start with and targeting the older crowd who relys on your services, or the richer crowd who will pass your name on .
