- You should talk to others in the business - see what the going rate is in your area. (You can call for estimates if you do not know anyone in the business.) It really depends on the clients and what you will be doing for them whether it's just mowing and clean up or if you will be fertilizing and maintaining also. You are protected if you have the clients sign a contract (but they are also if you do not follow through on your end). If you plan to do more than just mow the yards, you may want to contact you county cooperative extension. In order to apply certain chemicals, you need to go to training and be certified. You can also take the master gardener class which will help you not only with IPS but also plant diagnostics, insects, etc.
