How long does standard grass seeds take to grow?

I am in East England and would like to flattern my lawn and sow some new grass, how long does grass take to grow?

1. Good grass sees will germinate almost straight away under the right conditions, which, in eastern England are not right now! It is too cold. You could sow the seeds and cover with netting to keep off birds, cats and so on but in my opinion you'd be better leaving it until the end of March by which time gras seed will germinate and show some green threads in three or four weeks.Make sure you get the mixture right for the type of turf you want to end up with.
