- also need lime to negate acid soil from pines... any seed needs help
- maybe have the trees thinned out let more light in
- You may consider planting Azaleas, they love the acid from the pines
- You'll need to determine why it won't grow well. Are the pine trees causing too much shade? Have you had the soil tested? Also, try to find out what zone you live in (Southeast is too broad a term, I can grow many things in Central Florida that cannot be grown in North Florida). Your best bet is to ask around locally, perhaps have a local nursery come out and eyeball your yard and make a suggestion.
