What's a good grass to grow in Spring? I don't know what kind of soil I have,?
but I have a thriving pecan tree and live in NE No. Carolina. I'd like a fast growing type. How can I keep the birds from eating the seeds?

- Bluegrass and tall fescue grass, throw some horse manure on it or buy top dressing for about 3 dollars a bag. Horse ranches will be willing to load it in your pickup bed for free! It will feed the grass and keep the seed moist and hidden from birds, keep it watered, moist untill sprouting about 6weeks to get it going.
- In addition to what Fae said; there are other alternatives for lawn grasses in the south. Alabama, Georgia, Carolinas can also grow centipede grass and bermuda. Both grasses I just mentioned will spread by runners, rooting out at points of contact with the earth. Temperatures have to be hot to germinate bermuda seed. Average of 78 degrees day & night tempature. Contact some of your garden centers and inquire about hydromulching at the appropriate season to establish lawn quicker. Good luck!
