The Grass Doctor

Lawn care. I live in Atlanta, GA and have not had success with weeding and fertilizing my lawn. What is the ?

What is the best product to buy...that really works? I have wild onion, henbit, and crabgrass. I usally buy Scotts products and I never seem to have a nice green, weed free lawn. I have Bermuda and Tall Fescue.

  1. The weed and feed type of fertilizer will fertilize your lawn and kill weed seeds before they start to grow. You can use it to treat your lawn, but you will also need to find a selective herbicide to kill weeds already in the lawn. Read the labels to see what will kill the weeds in your lawn. Round up will kill most weeds, but you should find a broad leaf herbicide to kill dollar weeds and other broad leaf weeds.
  2. I have been in this business for a long time and I have given up on me keeping my lawn perfect.I hired a company like "true green" to keep my lawn perfect. Now I have no weeds or crabgrass and no more problems, just a nice dark green lawn.
  3. Anything with 24D as the active ingredient will take out the broad leaf weeds. Keep in mind that this will have to be done again and again as new weeds germinate and emerge. To end the constant re treatments; you will have to put out a product like Ron-star or Barricade to stop new seeds from germinating. Crab grass and other weed grasses have to be treated with MS MA or some product specifically targeted and labeled for that purpose. Be sure what ever it is you use is compatible with the type of grass your trying to grow. Read the label! Many Scott's products must be put out in the morning so it will stick to the plant with the dew. Watering is the most important thing you need to do regularly. Water heavily around dusk till you see puddling start to occur; then again in the morning but not as heavily. This is general advice, I could have been more help if I knew exactly what type of turf you are trying to grow.
