The Grass Doctor

what is a good type of grass i can try to grow during late fall and winter in south carolina?

i've got a new home and the land it's on got a lot of dirt and areas that have been dug up and don't have grass - which makes it very muddy during rain. i think that having some grass planted (along with other things) will help, but I don't know a good variety of grass that will grow during this time of year where i'm at. any suggestions?

  1. It is not too late to plant either annual or perennial Ryegrass in South Carolina. But the warm weather next summer will kill either one, so you will need to plant another, permanent, lawn grass next summer. Plant Centepede or Bermuda from seed in May - June, or Fescue from seed in late Aug - early Sept. Start Zoysia from sod or plugs in May thru September.
