I want to redo the grass in my yard. What is the best way to go seeds, or sod? What's the best way to do it?
My yard is a little bit grass mostly mud and weeds I have 2 young children and would love a nice back yard for them to play in. The fastest way to go would be the best, but I also want quality.

- the cheapest way would be seeds. the fastest way would for a sod company come in and lay it for you.
- Sod would be a lot faster however it will still take time. Seed is a lot cheaper.
- Go with sod trust me. From experience seeds take forever to grow long enough to look good and more often than not there are bald patches that are easy to trip in.
- Probably need to fertilize it also.
- The fastest way is to have a sod company lay it for you - you might want to have your property regraded first - this would clear out all the existing grass and weeds, then have a sod company come and lay the sod for you. Then, you can't go on it for a month, and have to be really diligent about watering if God doesn't do that for you. You could, if you were more interested in saving money, have the sod delivered and lay it yourself. Or, you could just reseed and hope for the best. In any case you won't be able to use your lawn for a few weeks. In case you don't think you're lucky, it snowed two feet here this weekend. It's still snowing. I'm ready to give Old Man Winter a blanket party.
- If you want quality, go with sod, and maintain, it will cost more, but that will do it. If you want to pay less, it will take longer and you can put down seed, hays over the seeds, and it will grow, then you have to maintain. Just buy the best products on the market and it will work.
- In the long run, sod is your best bet. It costs more but I've had a load of top soil wash away and rut while waiting on seed to germinate and grow enough to prevent washing. Either way requires a lot of watering up front. You can buy it through a wholesaler if you buy enough sod and save about 25-35%.
- well, id go with sod and get it professionally laid. it will be ready sooner.
- Sod - gets you on the grass quickly. If you go seed you still have to fight crab grass. A biggie here is you get the kids on it faster with less chemicals. Great resource below.
- If you can afford it, go sod.You can do it yourself but definitely pay attention to preparing the soil first. Sod takes much quicker and you can have kids using it much faster instead of having to keep them off the grass for weeks.
