I'm in Kansas. Last year I planted buffalo grass - grew quickly and looked healthy. It's all dead now. Why?

The grass seemed fine in the fall, but did not green up this spring-only a few weeds grew in.

1. What is the time line here. Buffalo grass goes dormant over winter.
2. Buffaloo gras doesnt take cold very well, also you have to be careful when applying weedkiller.
3. Errrr.... Winter? Wait a while and see if it regrows.
