- trust me fertilizers suck! most of the time they dont even work and they are hurting our environment.
- miracle grow, shultz and scotts are are pretty much the same.... Ironite is only iron and not so much a fertilizer as it is a tonic for plants that need greening up.... dunno what Home Depot fertilizer is unless it's just their brand and if so, it's the same as Miracle and the others.... the only differences will show up as the differences in numbers relating to the NPK of each... how much of each...nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium http://www.living-learning.com/faq/npk.htm one can get good results with any of them, as well as good results with more ORGANIC fertilizers like manures, seaweed, fish emulsion, compost and worm castings... it's all in how much time you have and how 'green' you wanna be.....
- They are all decent commercial fertilizers. Ironite is only an iron product & doesn't contain any other fertilizer. It is used for greening & adding iron to plants & grass. I personally like it & use it in small amounts. It is also good for areas that are getting urine burn from dogs. The others are basically the same with slightly different formulas for different uses. Personally I prefer Schultz over the others but it depends on what product & what you need it for.
- jbooger9, That's a pretty big question. In simple terms, some fertilizers are used a s liquid, some granular. Miracle-Gro & Schultz are liquids that are absorbed by the plant immediately and may last 7 to 14 days. Granular products have different amounts of nitrogen and are released it different rates depending on how the prill is coated. Scott's is good and may not release as fast as the Home Depot brand. The slower the release, the higher the nitrogen, the better the fertilizer is for your lawn. Ironite releases iron to help with yellow coloring, but in Dallas, you could use a ton of the stuff and nothing much would happen. All depends on the soil chemistry. Best suggestion is to avoid Home Depot for you gardening tips and head to your local garden center. Now go drink a beer and relax.
