1. I agree. The same thing happened at the DNC, fancy meals with lobster and cavier at private parties held for people that donated a lot of money to the democratic party. Good to see our money is going to a good cause.
2. When money is spent, it gives work to people who need it. If instead, the government gives away free money to its citizens, it causes inflation and no one wins. "pumping money into the economy" is the classic way of mitigating the bad effects of recession and stopping the downward spiral of economic damage -- so it's not the same as throwing money away (unless all the money was sent to China, LOL then it really would be a idiotic). So spending $0 on the inauguration doesn't help anyone except conceivably the US treasury (which really could use some help). But the money is coming from Obama's campaign money; I'm not sure where that would go exactly if it weren't spent. Keep in mind that all of that money came from his supporters' donations. I'll agree the government could give out food to the citizens, though. The government can hand out purchased resources to those that really need them, but never money on a large scale. But I don't see the typical American as so desperate as needing food donations, at least not yet. I do think the country is in a ton of trouble, but the inauguration dinner budget is indicative of nil.
3. A friend of my visited me yesterday and I asked the same question. She replied that it takes time, and people will stand up and do what is right. I wander how much longer? There are people that go to bed hungry...in this country!
