The Grass Doctor

I want to fill in some small patches of lawn with grass seed. I read soil amendment is advised to add to soil.?

along with starter fertilizer what kind of soil amendment is better chicken manure or steer manure? also I have a problem with birds eating all of the grass seeds after I sew the seeds. how can I prevent this?

  1. just add some topsoil and triple 10 fertalizer and water. you can put straw over the seed this will help with birds, and also prevent wash outs from rain.
  2. Go with what the "dude" said but poke a lot of holes in the ground before you plant -screwdriver works...aerates dirt. There are tools to do this but if it is a small patch - this'll work.
