How long after putting down grass seeds should you wait to mow?

We put down seeds like 2 weeks ago and it is already real long but still pretty thin. live in so. cal. only 2 nights of rain and a few days of sprinkles im not sure what kind of seed was laid

1. What is your location? What type of grass seed do you sow? How much rain have you gotten since planting?
2. I wouldn't mow it until spring.
3. mow new grass when it's an inch longer than the height at which you cut the rest of the yard.... around four inches is good for this time of year.... and be sure the ground is dry or the mower will yank out the new seedlings.....sharp, sharp blade helps, too!...
