Does grass produce its own seeds? How is grass seed produced?
Oranges have seeds. Watermelons have seeds. Grapes have seeds. How is grass seed produced? Does grass make seeds ? How can I make grass seed? I am tired of paying outrageous prices for seed. Ridiculous! Someone is making a fortune off of grass seed and something needs to be done about it!

- grass is one of the most common of plant types, all bloom and produce seed...but not if you keep cutting it. All grass goes to seed if left alone. I would not count on harvesting this stuff....think of wheat, greass is very similar, but the seed is seriously smaller.
- Yes, most grass produces seeds if it is left to grow. The seed is produced on farms just like grain. Planted, grown and harvested when the seed is mature. You can get seed simply by letting your grass mature and produce seed, but it will certainly be an unsightly lawn and if you have a hybrid the seed may not grow true.
- perhaps the question is, why do you have to keep buying grass seed? Does your lawn keep dying? Maybe you want to figure out what is going on and correct the underlying issue. Otherwise, the other thing we can all do is reduce our lawn size by planting trees, shrubs, native plants, etc. Turf grass is the largest crop grown in the U.S. and the amount of fossil fuel consumed in fertilizing and then mowing is mind boggling.
