The Grass Doctor

Why Does Obama Think the US Needs Manufacturing when Grass Cutters Charge $30 for Small Lawns?

It only takes a grass cutter about 20 minutes to do my 1/2 acre yard. And, he gets paid over $30. He happens to be an immigrant. There are plenty of them here who cut yards for great pay. If we create more manufacturing jobs, the cost to mow a small lawn will jump --- possibly to about $50. Oh, we also have several local high school grads in this area who have opened up mowing services because the pay is so great. Right or wrong? The point here is that this country "ain't" poor when grass cutters can charge $30/lawn and are busy as can be.

  1. Or you could get off your @ss and mow your own lawn and save the $30.
  2. So do you provide inexpensive health insurance for the guy who cuts your lawn? Mike--Of course not. But that's exactly my point: people who work as contractors are not entitled to benefits; true employees, especially traditional manufacturing employees, often are.
  3. So you support undocumented worker but not American workers I see Freaking 80's created little monster people called Reaganites who think solely of themselves Self absorbed brain dead little bastards one and all
  4. This may be the most ignorant and nonsensical attack on Obama I have ever heard. It's laughable.
  5. Explain how manufacturing correlates to grass mowing? I don't understand how more manufacturing will make your bill from an immigrant to mow your grass increase. By the way, you are a repub right? Why don't you employee one of the kids in your neighborhood to do your grass? Give them a job, let them start to be productive and save the money they earn. ************ The country isn't poor? Why don't you tell that to the countless auto industry workers that have lost their jobs or will in the near future. Why don't you tell that to the people who will lose jobs because of DHL leaving Ohio?
  6. Michael S: Do you provide inexpensive health care for any contractor you hire? Should you be liable for their health care needs? If you hire a painter to paint your house, should you pay for their dental?
  7. A lawn care job isn't a manufacturing job. I'm failing to see your point here, or how these two things are connected. If you have a problem with your current lawn mower's rates, find someone that charges less.
  8. Sorry to me it seems like you would rather get your grass cut for cheap than to see someone else have a higher level of economic balance. This is the kind of thinking that caused outrageous gas prices. Tons of investors more interested in dividends than what their market share was doing to the economy.
  9. If by manufacturing jobs you mean saving the auto industry, then yes we do need them. It's part of our industrial security. Without an auto industry in this country we could never tool up for a war, should we have to switch over to building planes, tanks, and other war machines, etc., the way they did during WWII. If we went to war with Japan, are we going to ask them to build us a few tanks and transport trunks first? Or do you think Japan would get involved in supplying us war implements if we went to war with a Mid Eastern country and chance themselves becoming a target? Maintaining an auto industry IS a security issue! 1 in 10 jobs in this country are auto industry related. There aren't that many grass cutting jobs around.
  10. I used to mow lawns for spending money when I was in school. Kids today still need jobs, trouble is, you'd trust a mexican to do a good job before the gothioc lazy brat with blue hair down the street. Who would probably mow half your yard and demand full payment. Don't worry, even uncut lawns are a job opening. If someone is ripping you off for $50, put an add in the paper, try different ones till you find one you like. It took me many bad haircuts, some more than I wanted to pay, to find a good barber. Competition brings down prices. Don't hog all the Mexicans for yourself. They make good factory workers too, and maybe your car parts wont cost so much. Mowing lawns is a tax free business, (usually cash) There will always be hard workers willing to cheat the Govt. I'd do it if I were 10 years younger.
  11. Mow your own lawn or quityerbitchin.
