The Grass Doctor

New Sod laid, now we have crabgrass?

New sod was laid on our back property a few months ago that came with crabgrass. Is it too late in the season to put down Scotts fertilizer with crabgrass killer? We live in Ohio. Or should I put on the summerguard ? We have some weeds and crabgrass in the new sod. The rest of our yard looks perfect but we treat our grass with the Scotts program every 6 weeks.

  1. Scott's has you putting down stuff every six weeks? What a waste. Unless the yard is huge and/or completely infested I would recommend buying a pump sprayer and concentrated crabgrass killer and just spot treating. Much better for the environment and your wallet.
  2. Scott's IS a safe and effective program. It is the timing that makes it work well, go to the store and tell the person there the problem. You may just need time for the Scott's to take over and kill it.
  3. OK. just leave it alone for now but at Halloween buy a product for crabgrass control Hi Yield has a good one place in spreader and use on yard .then at valentines put out more. this will kill all of it and other weeds. Think about it Scott's fertilizer. i don't think so. i am a professional lawn care man this will save you alot of money and work
