The Grass Doctor

What types of fertilizer are best on grass?

We are doing a science fair project on which types of fertilizer work best on grass. We dont know what kinds to use.

Public Comments

  1. cow crap
  2. This is probably going to sound really odd but crushed and dried bananas and peels does work! It may be perfect for a science fair project.
  3. The very best is Scott's lawn fertilizer
  4. corn gluten meal. It's organic, fertilizes grass (slow release), and prevents many weed seeds from germinating. Also, organic compost.
  5. high nitrogen content for grass to grow thicker and, iron will make it darker green
  6. Dear None, Check your other question. I answered it there?
  7. A coated slow release fertilizer.
  8. If you have access to leaves in Fall, and a mulching mower, spread them over your lawn and mulch them in. Decaying leaves provide a high nitrogen fertilizer for your grass, and they are CHEAP! Alternatively, any commercial fertilizer that is high in nitrogen is best. Fertilizers have ratings on the front of the bag (ie 10-10-10). This is the N-P-K rating of the fertilizer. N = Nitrogen P = Phospherous K = Potassium For grass, look for a fertilizer with a higher number in the "N" place. You could try fertilizers that have higher numbers in the "P" and "K" places and see if they perform as well. Good luck!
