The Grass Doctor

Why does grass grow freely in parks, and sidewalks but I have to spend $100s each year to keep my lawn?

It annoys me that each year I need to water, fertilize, triple mix, over seed, de-weed, etc. and it costs me $100s of dollars a year to just to HAVE grass! I don't want a freakin golf green! But in parks, sidewalks, and other public places, grass isn't taken care of (just mowed) and it grows freely! No fertilizer nothing! WHY?

  1. It doesn't grow "freely" there either. You are paying for its upkeep with your tax dollars!!!!! You might not see it being fertilized, but it is.
  2. it's taken care of by the city you live in. they city pays for it.
  3. It's probably the type of grass seed that was used in the parks, etc, as compared to the type of grass your lawn is composed of. Try calling the parks dept in your area and ask them what they use, then overseed your lawn with that. Also, you might look for books by Jerry Baker, who is a Master Gardener. He has a lot of tips for improving lawns, without using chemicals.
  4. i get a kick out of people who bag their lawn clippings and then pay for fertilizer , instead of mulching and letting the clippings fertilize the lawn...
