The Grass Doctor

I looking to plant ornamental grass to provide a privacy screen, I live in NY zone 7?

Looking for a beach type grass that will tolerate full sun exposure and provide privacy. I would like the screen to be at least 6 feet tall.

  1. Try pampass grass.
  2. Hey Mr. Yankee, Pampas grass is hardy to zone 7, but that is stretching it. There are hardy varieties, so you need to make sure which variant you are getting. Try Plume Grass which is a hardy pampas grass.
  3. I love my Karl Foerster Grass....it's a very sturdy, upright grass that stands about 4 or 5 feet tall. If you planted a staggered row of them you would have good privacy barrior. Also I have some miscanthus grass that is very cool and w ould work for privacy screen. One thing you may want to consider is using a variety of ornamental grasses . It is a attractive display and using different colored grasses adds dramatic interest. 4. I have several of them. In the summer they are nice and green and tall and then in the winter they die off and turn brown. I leave them like that until spring and then trim them off and then they grow back again. To me trimming them is a real pain and mess!
