Can you only plant grass in spring?

if i wanted to plant grass out in my garden, which i would get delivered in rolls, can i only plant it in spring? if it depends on the type of grass, it is 'shademaster bufallo'

  1. I don't know much about that type of grass, but I do know that in the spring it doesn't get as hot as it does in the summer. When you plant something, you want the roots to get deep to collect water and be able to sustain itself. In the summer, it is very hot most of the time, and things get dried out quickly and fried if they don't get the proper hydration. If you were to plant it in the spring, you would still need to water it to maintain it, but in the summer you would need to constantly hydrate it to make sure it didn't dry out and die.
  2. Here in New Orleans, we have the best luck with grass planted in May and October. Put an all purpose fertilizer on the ground first and then lay the sod. Water daily.
