  2. Grass is hard to plant around Oak trees. In fact sometimes it is just better that you put wood chips or mulch around it instead of grass. The thing with Oak Trees is that they use a lot of water around them almost to the point where nothing else can grow there because the Oak Tree robs the soil of water and nutrients. Willow trees are even worse. I have 30 or so trees in my yard. 80% of them are Oak. I haven't had any success planting grass around them. I would just put mulch around them say about 2 feet out from the trunk of the tree then you can plant grass. I hope this helps. Take care.
  3. add a thin layer of topsoil and then rake in a good mix of fescue.
  4. Try sweet smother grass, it grows well in shady spots
  5. no grass, you might kill the tree. Really consult a professional gardener
  6. i don't know you live but if you can get palmetto grass its great for shady areas down here in florida-- no matter where you live you'll need to get grass that thrives in shady areas- especially with an oak tree b/c they get so massive
  7. You Don't Grass takes at least 4 hours of direct light. Go with mulch, ferns, few boulders for a natural look. Go with Asian Jasmine or ivy for a more formal look. If you are super anal and demand turf, go with dwarf mondo grass. Hire someone to plant 4 inch pots every 6 inches apart. Should fill in over the next 36 months.
