The Grass Doctor

Grubs in Ontario?

I live in Ontario and last fall I noticed a LOT of grubs. They destroyed the grass. Is there a pesticide-free product that can help? I contacted many lawn care companies and they all claim that their products are non-toxic to birds and worms. Should I believe them? FYI, the milky stuff won't work....I've been told I have white grubs. And, I don't know a single person who successfully eradicated their grub problem with nemaetodes. Thanks!

  1. Bring in a bunch of skunks! they love to feed on grubs.
  2. If its a licensed, bonded and often used company, I say believe them. Here is an idea if you are still skeptical: have them fax or give you a list of chemicals they use to get rid of grubs and do a search engine check on them (Yahoo or google)! Grubs CAN kill a lawn. Not only that, white grubs tend to grow into Japanese beetles and they are a real pain in the arse to most gardeners. Not oly will you be spraying every plant in a 100 foot radius of your house, but your lawn will be dead. I am usually very conservative when it comes to pesticides and chemicals choosing to use chickens, guinea hens and no spays of any kind. But in this case I say get rid off them!! The only natural alternative I can think of is a more destructive mole. ;o)
