what lawn care product has given you the best results for a greener thicker lawn?

  1. I've found "astro-turf" to work well in our drought stricken zone.....
  2. Vigoro. Always have a lush green lawn. Also, use Milky Spore to control the grubs. We do not use any weed killers. http://www.vigoro.com/ I also keep the mower blades sharp. Do not cut the grass to short and water whenever we do not have enough rain. I apply the Vigoro 2 to 3 times a year and the grass is very lush and green. It is very thick and healthy and there is a distinct line of my darker green lawn down both sides of the neighbors yards. One neighbor has the professionals spray it and the other uses another fertilizer. We were told to use this product by a friend who used to be head landscaper at the golf course and who had the best looking lawn in the neighborhood.
  3. lime. adds calcium, helps keep soil pH in proper range, and allows other nutrients to be taken up.
  4. The levers on your mower to raise it. ( up to 3 1/2" -4") . Aeration , water, and proper mower height will do more than anything . Use a core aeration machine once every year. Most people cut their grass too short .Higher means more green on the grass plant, leading to heathier, more vigorous plants . This is better able to compete with weeds. It also shades the soil surface somewhat , keeping the roots cooler and moister , and denying light to weeds and weed seeds . Water , if needed . Fetilizer? Just about any will do . Read the label. Most of them have the same formulation . If you follow above, you may not need it . Check the pH. If it's too low, add lime . Make sure to keep it away from acid-loving plants , such as rhododendrons. Have seen a few killed this way.
  5. Since you're specifically asking for a product, I use the whole 4-color regimen of Scott's... The stuff is used for the 4-seasons and I have the healthiest and greenest yards in the whole neighborhood so I'll say Scott's... It helps winterize your lawn, green it up for spring, kills off most bugs, stops and prevents weeds and all of this while fertilizing/greening your lawn all year... Pretty straight forward and super easy to apply since its granular... Hope this helps.. 1EM
  6. I use Scott's also, but after I areate in the fall with my golf shoes I add a good dose of Milorganite over my entire yard. Also every three years I stink up the neighborhood with a good dose of chicken manure compost. It stinks for about a day and a half, but is very rich in nitrogen.
