Lawn care for busy (lazy) people ??

I am interested in trying to get my lawn to look better, and I can't afford a lawn service so I need to do it myself. I am a very busy person (and I guess a little lazy when I'm not being busy) so I would love it if someone could outline for me a few basic steps that I could do that might make my lawn a little nicer. (Fewer weeds, thicker and greener, etc.) Be as detailed as possible, because this is something I have no experience in whatsoever. Thanks for your help ! BTW....I do cut it regularly, that's the one part I AM good about, because I actually enjoy mowing the lawn :)

  1. Rake your lawn in the Spring and Fall, mow your lawn once a week, and use a 4 step lawn program, such as offered by Scott's. Invest in either a hand held or a push spreader.
  2. If you have thick thatch (dead matted grass) rake it out (lawn-rake). Use a Feed and Weed treatment, (diluted, and watering can applied, lawn fertiliser and weedkiller). Cut regularly ( regularly means when the lawn needs it, not when you feel like it). Water sensibly. When you get on top of the problems, it becomes easier.
  3. Go to www.wildflowerfarm.com and order eco grass. It needs no fertilizer or chemicals. It is drought resistant and never needs mowing, but you can mow it a couple of times a year for a clipped look. Also you can sprinkle it over your existing lawn and it will crowd out your other grass. It grows in sun or shade.
