The Grass Doctor

which of the national lawn care chains is best? TruGreen? Lawn Doctor? Another one?

I live in southern maryland and i suspect I need some seeding, aeration, maybe thatching and some fertilizer. It's a small front lawn, and I don't want to pay a fortune. I suspect one good treatment would keep me for the year. I mow the thing myself so I don't have a regular lawn service. Any idea on the best approach and what to avoid?

  1. Try ChemLawn
  2. I used Trugreen here in Colorado for three seasons and it cost me almost $50 per application and they were applying the lawn treatment about every 5-6 weeks. I got rid of them and started using the beer/mouth wash/ammonia, etc. mix and my lawn looks as good as it ever did with Trugreen. I haven't used any weed killer and I only have the occasionally dandelion and then I just dig it out. Personally, I don't think the lawn care outfits are worth the expense and Trugreen has harrassed me unmercifully to get my business back. It would almost have been less trouble to keep them.
  3. Use Scotts, far better than trugreen and lawn doctor. They offer a gaurantee with several programs for lawn and pest defenses.
