- fertilize it, ask your garden center what to use. water it dethatch it every year.
- Saint Augustine is pretty easy to maintain. Keep it bug free and well watered. It is the preferred grass in South Texas, as it endures the heat quite well. At the beginning of the season (spring), fertilize and also use a bug preventing spread. At the end of the season, also fertilize again. The fertilizer will keep it healthy and prevent weeds such as dollar weed (if I could exchange dollar weed at face value, boy would I be rich). Keep it well water in the summer, about three times a week. If you develop a brown spot, the grass has died. Use a rake to remove the dead grass. Since St. Augustine is ‘mule grass’ the remaining portions of the lawn will spread to cover the open spot If you develop dollar weed patches, you must “shock” the area. Use about 3 to 4 times the fertilizer in the area; wait for the spot to die, and remove all the dead grass afterwards. Good Luck!
- Search for information on St Augustine on Yahoo! Answers. I answered a question just recently about St Augustine. It may be easy in Texas, but it sure isn't in Florida. Unfortunately, it is just about the only game in town if you want a lawn in Florida.
