My fiancee purchased a new home in December.?
We are not sure when the grass was put down but we've noticed that it is very brown in spots. Does anyone know any lawn care tips about aerating, fertilizing, watering, etc......

- Water the grass. Many parts of the country are experiencing drought conditions. If you elect to reseed your lawn, look for drought-resistant varieties of grass seed. You also do not want to bag your grass. Cut your yard often enough that the grass clippings fall back into the grass and become natural fertilizer. If you have a riding lawn mower, look for a multipurpose spreader/aerator combo that your lawnmower can pull. They are cheaper that way and take up less space. If you do not have a riding lawnmower, have a lawn service aerate your soil. They have professional equipment that will be much more effective than any sort of hand aerator. Whatever you do, do not buy those strap-on aerators that go on your shoes. They are a waste of money.
- My husband and I just bought a new house and had the same issue. We bought a bag of Turf Builder. I think its Scott brand at Wal Mart. We put it on in the amounts the directions said and the yard greened up in just a few days. So I've been told, Turf Builder is the best fertilizer you can buy. It definetly worked for us! If you use it, make sure you wet the yard first.
