- Do a great job and advertise. Word of mouth by your clients is a great way to start.
- It is easy to get a few customers from among friends and relatives. Do good work, be dependable. People will stop and ask you if you can do their yards. It does not take long before you have more customers than you can handle. When I was in the lawn care business I was working 7 days a week, until I realized I did not have anytime off between March and November and cut back. You customers will give you their friends names because the friends will ask them about who is doing their yard, if you do good work.
- Water well, use good fertilizer ..... Sorry, just couldn't resist
- Almost any question you have about growing your business has already been asked and answered. Start at http://lawnandlandscape.com/ and register to create a login. Then select Community from the menu at the top of the screen. Then select Message Board. Voila -- instant access to years and years of experience with lawn care and landscaping. One thing that has worked very well for our landscape contracting business has been having business card holders on the sides of the trucks. This allows people to take a business card without disturbing the workers. Keep them filled with a nice business card, and they will definitely improve your business, oftentimes with new clients from a neighborhood where you are already working. http://www.vehiclecardpockets.com/ I don't remember if this is the company we got them from, as there were several hits on my search, but this looks like what we're using. They click shut, so you can drive on the freeway without losing cards, and they can be rained on without getting the cards wet. Good luck with growing your business.
