The Grass Doctor

where can i find charts that will give me planting info such as lbs per acre on the following? grains/grass ga

i am in the grading and clearing busssiness and i have have to plant a lot of grass (bermuda, fescue mostly) and this is generaly for pasture but sometimes just for ground cover. also i do what i like to call hobby farming i plant wheat, rye grass and grain, oats, barley, milo and millet (to be harvested by combine). what i am looking for are charts that will tell me lbs or bushels per acre for each and the charts need to be broken into two catagories one being (applied by spin spreader) the other being (applied by grain drill) also for example if i am fixing to drill in wheat at the rate of two bushels per acre what should i set my fertilizer dispenser on my grain drill for in lbs per acre? i know this will vary due to soil conditions but im just looking for an educated estimate. (good soil ?) (fair soil?) (poor soil?) for each of the grains listed above (not the grasses)

  1. try the old famers almanac website
  2. Go to your favorite search engine and type in USDA and narrow it down from there. Like if you are in Ohio, or Indiana, etc. This will tell you just about everything you want or need to know. It may take a while because there is so much info but it should work for you.
  3. Knotts Handbook is a good place to start.
  4. http://www.clemson.edu/agronomy/grasslands/forage/tallfescue/establish.html Try this site. You can click on forage species to get different type grasses. It has a wealth of information for you. Hope it helps.
  5. If you are dealing with Festuca arundiacea you get 110, 000 seeds per kg sowing rate is roughly 20-25 g/m2 or Festuca nigrescens you get 280,000 seeds per kg sowing rate is roughly 10-15 g/m2; You will have to work out the total area that your dealing with first. Fertilisers that you could use is ammonium sulphate at 20 g/m2 or superphospate at 20g/m2 or sulphate of potash at 8g/m2.
