Tomato fertilizer question?

How much chicken manure should I mix with the soil for one tomato plant?

Public Comments

  1. None, use vegetable and flower fertilizer or some homemade compost.
  2. Make it about an inch deep and then work it about 6 inches into the soil. Also, use Miracle Gro tomato food. Follow the mixing directions (it's about a tablespoon of granules per gallon of water) and water with that every couple of weeks. It's good stuff.
  3. Chicken manure, especially uncomposted, is too high in Nitrogen to get a lot of flowers and fruit on your tomato plants. if it composted put a cup or two in the planting hole along with a tablespoon of epsom salts. To get good flowers use a fertilizer high in P and K and lower in N
