Tomato fertilizer question?
How much chicken manure should I mix with the soil for one tomato plant?
Public Comments
- None, use vegetable and flower fertilizer or some homemade compost.
- Make it about an inch deep and then work it about 6 inches into the soil. Also, use Miracle Gro tomato food. Follow the mixing directions (it's about a tablespoon of granules per gallon of water) and water with that every couple of weeks. It's good stuff.
- Chicken manure, especially uncomposted, is too high in Nitrogen to get a lot of flowers and fruit on your tomato plants. if it composted put a cup or two in the planting hole along with a tablespoon of epsom salts. To get good flowers use a fertilizer high in P and K and lower in N
