The Grass Doctor

Can I put down starter fertilizer with fescue grass seeds before the grass start to grow?

  1. Amended Below.... Absolutely, just as long as there is no weed killer in your fertilizer. Weed killer stuns the growth of seed, so actual "starter fertilizer" will work great. When you put down the seed and fertilizer, lightly brush your hand over it to mix it in with the top dirt a bit. Letting it lay on top will wash into clumps when you water it. It will definitely grow if covered a bit. Another trick is to actually sprinkle top soil or pete moss over your new seed and fertilizer. Good luck and have a great day.
  2. There should be no problem. The fertilizer will be absorbed in to the soil. The seeds will pickup it up through the roots.
