Grass Fertilizer Help! How do you repair damaged grass spots?
I accidentally used the wrong fertilizer(16-16-16) when applying it to the grass in the frontyard, so my neighbor suggested to use another fertilizer instead, which was the Scotts fertilizer with 2% iron and that did work. However, the 16-16-16 fertilizer previously used damaged certain areas of the lawn, and now I'm left with brown dead spots in the grass. How do I get rid of those dead spots, and make grass grow in those areas again? I have tried to put the Scotts fertilizer with 2% iron in those brown spots, but that proved to be unsuccessful and the dead brown spots are still there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciatied, thanks a bunch.

- Try putting grass seed in those areas. You probably burned the areas out so fertilizer isn't going to help.
- Once the fertilizer burn marks show up there is nothing you can do but replace the grass. There are a couple of different kinds of grass seed mixes that you can put down, like Scott's Patchmaster. I would work the ground up a bit first and water heavily, to get the fertilizer out.
- adding more fertilizer is making the problem worse. You need to leach thos areas.. water the area very well. you may consider applying some garden gypsum to those areas to help diffuse some of the "saltiness" of the 16-16-16.
