What is the best fertilizer program to buy for the lawn? I heard scotts was good but are there others that?
are better? I'm looking for a program to start up now that it's still considered late spring/early summer. I don't want to pay for the lawn service either I just want to know what program to use and when?

- Mid summer is not a great time to feed unless you're planning to water a lot. Bear in mind that the main ingredients of fertilizer are Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium.. These are the major plant nutrients and they are listed on the bag as N-P-K. Generally, turf food is highest in Nitrogen (the first number). Look at fertilizers from Lesco, and even at store brands like Vigoro or Sam's choice. With lawn fertilizer, a lot of what you pay for is brand. One thing to look for are the words "controlled release". This means that the nutrients are released over time and not all at once. Releasing all at once causes burns, particularly this time of year. Be sure that you apply according to the manufacturer's instructions and at the recommended rate. Over-applying will have you back here asking what to do about my yellow spots or what do I do about my dead lawn. If it were me, I'd feed at half rate this time of year.. then feed at full rate in late Sept when rain is more likely to fall and the grass won't be under as much stress from heat. Good Luck!
- If you have a Home Depot near you try the Lesco fert there, its as good as you can get with out going organic.
